Ruby in zoisite (Anyolite)

The stone of contrast and vitality

A green rock with red ruby crystals, known for its colour contrast and its Tanzanian origin.

A metamorphic rock made of green zoisite, red corundum crystals (ruby) and usually black hornblende. It was found in 1954 near Longido in Tanzania, and its name, anyolite, comes from the Maasai word for green. The contrast of green and red is its signature. The ruby in it is opaque, not transparent gem quality, and polished surfaces are sometimes oiled or waxed.
