Ocean jasper
The stone of the sea and serenity
The sea-green jasper from Madagascar with its distinctive orb pattern; known for serenity and renewal.
A silica rock, chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz) formed in silicified volcanic rock, with a pattern of small orbs, which is why it is also called orbicular jasper. It comes from north-west Madagascar: the first deposit, on the Marovato coast, was reached only at low tide and is now largely exhausted, and newer material comes from other sites nearby. No two stones are alike: each piece carries its own pattern of circles in green, white, cream, pink and brown.
